Chapter 6 Vocab

The Five W's are What When Why Where and Who? These elements elong in every news story.
The inverted pyramida style of newswriting in which the mai facts go at the top of the article. The facts become less significant until toward the bottom they may be dispensible. This gives the reader the essential facts first and permits expansion or contraction in editing and page layout.
A Lead is the first paragraph of a news story. It is used to pull reader into the story and it often consists of one sentence.
A Question lead is a lead that begins with a question. This kind of lead gives little information and is generally to be avoided.
A Summary lead is a lead that provides the briefest posible summary of the major facts of a story in the first sentence/
A Tease uses a lead that coaxes readers into a story by making them read further to see what the lead really means..
